Moving On

October 28, 2016

Good things happen to those who wait...or not. After weeks and weeks of waiting, my rant on education was rejected. I'm still counting it as a win. Given all the presidential news coverage, my little rant about current education issues does seem rather trivial. But, it took them a long time to decide they weren't going to run it, so I have to think they thought there was value in the text. I'm going to hang on to my heartfelt piece and try again in about six months. Perhaps we'll have recovered from this election and folks will be more interested in issues closer to home.

In other news, I have the map illustration that will be in my novel! I'm starting to believe Josiah's story is really coming to life. Artists are working on the cover, and the page layout is underway. We're still looking at January or February for delivery.

However, what I'm most excited about is that the second book is well underway. This story has many of the same characters as Josiah's tale, but is told from a different character's perspective. A few new characters show up, and Estes Park has a role to play in Laughing Wolf's story. It's counter intuitive, but as the holidays roll around, I will probably have more time to devote to writing. I'm anxious to delve into Laughing Wolf's world!

Finally, my term as Writer in Residence has come to an end. It was an exhilarating and swift six months. Fortunately, I will continue working with the High Plains Library Foundation in numerous ways! It's exciting to see what the future holds for this organization and Weld County.

Happy Fall Y'all!
